Potlucks

Invite some good friends over for a potluck. It's an affordable way to have guests over without taking on the full financial burden and stress of having to plan dinner parties. You can make it as casual as saying potluck or designate each person to bring a specific type of dish i.e., vegetarian, side dish, salads, etc. You can even ask some guests to bring plates, utensils, and things of that sort to make clean up easier.

At Home Movie Days

Gather a few friends over for a movie day or night requesting each one to bring a few movies of their choice. You can even define a theme, so you don't go from having to watch a suspense thriller to a chick flick. Select a genre everyone will enjoy watching. Ask that everyone brings something to eat, as well. You can have a concession stand feel to it with big tubs of popcorn and candy or choose to go healthy with hummus, carrots, celery, and things of that sort. Have a few friends over and enjoy some good movies!

Hiking!

Hiking is free, fun, and a great way to workout! You can go by yourself to collect your thoughts, turn it into a romantic retreat, or go with a bunch of friends to catch up. Take in nature, enjoy the scenery, and just get away from the city life or wherever you're normally exposed to. Sometimes a break is a good thing.

Farmer's Markets

I've been described as a farmer's market diva. So I don't have to explain that I love the farmer's market. I think everyone should go at least once. You get to sample the food. The produce is much fresher than what you'll ever find at the supermarket. There's even prepared meals if you're not into the idea of cooking. It's a great place to meet people, come up with great recipe ideas, and just get to know your community.

Beach Day!

Going to the beach is such an enjoyable experience and the best part is that it's free!!!! :D Go during the day by yourself with a book for a quiet day of reflection and much needed break from the world. Or gather or friends and family for a fun group day! You can even go at night and enjoy bonfires if you prefer.

Festivals and Parades

Check out your local festivals and parades. There are a bunch that celebrate specific races and ethnicities. It's a free, cheap way to have fun, and have an educational experience. It's also a great opportunity to meet new people.
