Don't Ice a Burn
If you burn yourself, it's natural to want to relieve it with an opposite effect by icing it but the two extreme in temperatures is a shock to your system and really bad for you. Don't do it! If you burn yourself and it's not an emergency, run it under cold water until the burning sensation subsides. Lightly tap it dry and moisturize it with ointment.

Do Not Butter Burns!!!
An outdated, traditional and severely damaging remedy is to apply butter on burns. Butter will retain and raise the heat levels because the butter will start to melt and sizzle. That sizzle is full of heat. Heat that's sitting over your burned skin. Not a good idea. Instead, run cold water over the affected area. Do not, I repeat, do not use ice. Ice can cling to the skin, but it's also an extreme temperature. Going from burning hot to icy cold is a shock to the system. Your body only interprets burn, hot and freezer burns.
Moisturize a Burn
After you've cleansed and thoroughly dried the affected area, with gentle pressure, apply a light layer of moisturizer over the affected area. Burned skin is dry skin. It's important to replenish the moisture its loss to return to its natural state.
